Group Sues CFPB for Exchanges with GOP on Prepaid Card Rule

04/20/17 – Law360 reports that a liberal activist group is suing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in D.C. federal court for records of communications between GOP lawmakers about the Prepaid Card rule.

According to Law360, the group is seeking expedited processing of two Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests regarding the CFPB’s new prepaid card rule—which, among other things, would limit consumers’ losses on unauthorized transactions. The group states that attempts by Republican lawmakers back in February to eliminate the regulation under the Congressional Review Act warrant an accelerated response from the CFPB. The group also complains that the CFPB denied the group’s previous FOIA request without directly addressing their concerns.

The case is Allied Progress v. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, No. 1:17-cv-00686, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
